Return Reason Code

A standardized label assigned to each return describing why the customer sent the item back.

Return reason codes are structured categories that explain why a customer initiated a return. Common codes include 'defective,' 'wrong item,' 'not as described,' 'changed mind,' and 'size too small.' Using consistent codes enables return analytics, helping merchants track trends over time and identify which issues drive the most returns. Many platforms require codes before processing refunds.
